The major hiring sectors in Qatar
A market concentrated in a limited number of large employers — which makes CV quality more decisive, not less.
Hiring in Qatar centres on energy, led by QatarEnergy, along with aviation and hospitality, construction and infrastructure, health and education, and finance in the Qatar Financial Centre. When the number of large employers is limited, every posting attracts an enormous volume of applications — and automated screening is what makes handling that possible at all.
Most of these organisations take applications through their own career portal built on a global applicant tracking system. The practical meaning: your file will not be read by a human until it passes an automated match on job title, skills and certifications. Arabic or English?
English is the corporate default; Arabic is a requirement on specific tracks.
In large companies and in energy, aviation and finance, English is the language of work and documentation, and an English CV is what is expected. Government entities and roles with an official, legal or media character require correct Arabic.
If you are applying for a public-facing role or one that deals with official bodies, demonstrating both languages is a real advantage — but demonstrate it by naming what you delivered in each language, not with a "fluent" label that means nothing to anyone. Qatarisation and labour mobility
A well-established nationalisation policy, plus one significant regulatory change in moving between employers.
Qatarisation aims to raise the share of Qataris in employment and is particularly entrenched in the energy sector, which runs long-running development programmes for national talent. The Ministry of Labour oversees labour market regulation.
On the regulatory side, in 2020 Qatar introduced labour law reforms that removed the requirement to obtain a No Objection Certificate from the current employer in order to change jobs, alongside the introduction of a minimum wage. In practice, moving between employers became procedurally clearer — while the contractual notice period still applies.
For exactly that reason, state your notice period on your CV or in your letter if you are currently employed: it has become the most important timing factor in planning your start date.
