Why does a technical CV need special handling with ATS?
A technical role is measured by precise keywords more than any other field.
Tech job ads are written in dense, term-heavy language: a specific programming language, a particular framework, a cloud service, or a network protocol. ATS match your CV against these terms literally, so if the recruiter wrote "Kubernetes" and you only wrote "containers," the match may never happen. How do you write a Tech Stack that ATS will match?
The acronym alone is not enough; write the full form and the abbreviation together.
The golden principle: write every term in both forms — the acronym and the full name — at least once. ATS may search for either one depending on what the recruiter wrote. For example: "Application Programming Interfaces (APIs)," "Continuous Integration / Continuous Deployment (CI/CD)," "Relational Databases (SQL)." This guarantees a match whether the system searches for the long form or the short form.
Programming languages
List them by their official names as they appear in the ad: Python, JavaScript, Java, C#, Go, SQL. Do not abbreviate them or bury them inside a long narrative sentence that is hard to parse.
Frameworks and libraries
React, Node.js, .NET, Django, Spring Boot, TensorFlow. Match the official spelling exactly, because "React JS," "ReactJS," and "React" may be treated as different terms.
Cloud and infrastructure
AWS, Azure, Google Cloud (GCP), Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform. Write the full name of the cloud service once, then its acronym if it has one.
Databases and tools
PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Redis, Git, Jira, Jenkins. These are operational tools that engineers specifically search for, so don't neglect them.

Professional certifications: write them the way ATS searches
A technical certification is a valuable keyword if it is written correctly.
Certifications are among the strongest matching signals in the technical field because they are specific and unambiguous. Same rule: acronym + full name, along with the issuing body and issue year if recent. Put them in a standalone "Certifications" section, not scattered inside your experience.
- Networking: CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate), CCNP, Network+.
- Cloud: AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, Google Cloud Professional.
- Cybersecurity: CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional), CEH (Certified Ethical Hacker), Security+.
- Project management and Agile: PMP (Project Management Professional), PMI-ACP, Certified Scrum Master (CSM).
- Data and databases: Oracle Certified, Microsoft Certified: Data Analyst, Databricks.
If you write "Cisco" only, without "CCNA," the system will most likely search for the English acronym and won't find it. Integrity matters here: list only the certifications you have actually earned and can prove, because the human review after screening will expose any exaggeration.
GitHub and project links: where to place them and how?
The link is practical proof, but its placement decides whether ATS will read it.
Your portfolio on GitHub or your personal site is a real competitive advantage for a developer, but be careful: many ATS ignore anything placed in the page header or footer. So put the links in the body of the CV, within the "Contact Information" section at the top of the page, as plain text, not inside an image or an icon alone. Write the full readable link instead of hiding it behind a linked word, for example: github.com/username.
- The link as text: write the full, copyable address, not an icon with no text behind it, so that both humans and the system can read it.
- Selected projects: mention two or three notable projects by name, your role in each, the tech stack used, and a measurable result if you have one from your real work.
- Tie the skill to the project: instead of an abstract skills list, show "built an API in Node.js that serves X" so the match happens within the context of an achievement.
Do not rely on GitHub alone to list your skills; ATS does not open the link and does not read your repositories — it reads only the text of your CV. So state every important technical term explicitly in the body.
