The professional certifications and licenses hiring teams look for
In the Saudi engineering sector, some certifications aren't decoration — they're a basic requirement.
- Saudi Council of Engineers (SCE) membership: mention the membership number and classification grade (Engineer / Professional Engineer), as many jobs and tenders explicitly require it. Write it in both Arabic and English: «الهيئة السعودية للمهندسين» and "Saudi Council of Engineers".
- Project management: PMP, CAPM, or Primavera P6 — heavily weighted in contracting and large projects; state them with both the acronym and the full name.
- Quality and safety: Six Sigma (Green/Black Belt), NEBOSH, OSHA, ISO 9001 — frequently required in manufacturing, utilities, and contracting.
- Specialized technical certifications: Autodesk Certified, AWS/Azure certifications for software engineers, LEED for sustainability and green-building engineers.
- Professional license and classification: if your specialty requires a specific accreditation in Saudi Arabia, state it in a clear standalone section — don't bury it inside your experience.
Presenting projects and measured results in an ATS-safe way
An engineer is judged by their projects; but the way they're presented determines whether the systems will read them at all.
The strongest element of an engineer's CV is the measurable result: project value, duration, savings percentage, number of units, team size. Present these numbers as real numbers that belong to you — don't invent figures that never happened. Honesty here isn't just ethical but practical: any number in your CV may come up in the interview.
- Start with a strong verb: "supervised," "designed," "led," "delivered" — followed by exactly what you did, not a vague title.
- Tie it to the tool and standard: "designed a drainage system using Civil 3D in line with the Saudi Building Code" — this weaves the tool and the standard in as two keywords in a natural context.
- Add the real number: project value in riyals, number of months, team size, or any metric you can actually back up.
- Avoid trapping numbers inside a table: write them in the bullet text, not in a table cell that may be read as scrambled.
